A point-of-entry self-cleaning backwash water filter / inline strainer will save you money, time and aggravation
Inline strainers or water filters are needed to rid our water of impurities like sand, rust, dirt, gravel. The “Water Works” department does an exeptional job in filtering and purifying our city water supply, unfortunately from the time it leaves the various pumping/storage stations and enters into the underground plumbing network, (infrastructure) which distributes the water to our homes, buildings, schools and places of business; it is subject to changes and contamination.
MOST if not ALL of the city`s water mains are made of steel and/or cast iron. Given the age of these pipes, corrosion remains the biggest problem.
Corrosion in our city water mains leads to rust build-up within them, which eventually is swept into our water supply through the repetitive water pressure disruptions and by the many broken water mains.
Particulate Matter and other physical impurities in our water supply can have a significant detrimental impact on building maintenance and operational costs, especially with the progressively smaller water pathways of Low Consumption faucets, showers, toilets and Green (LEED) Products.
The Physical Impurities that are introduced into our city water supply, which include rust, sand, dirt, and gravel to name few, are a direct result of the constant occurence of city water main breaks, causing the following plumbing problems and more;
- leaky toilets, which can waste more than 300,000 litres of water per year
- early erosion of copper pipes
- sediment build-up in hot water tanks
- erosion of hot water tank liners exposing bare metal which causes tanks to rust
- water discoloration
- build-up on boiler heat transfer elements
- clogging and obstruction of faucet aerators
- malfunction of pressure regulating valves
- wear and tear on booster pumps and recirculating pumps
- malfunction of shut-off valves
- leaky and faulty flush-o-meters
- malfunction of electronic faucets, toilets and urinals
- leaky faucets and shower controls
- staining of fixtures
- unpleasant drinking water

Frequently Asked Questions
Why treat water?
Our drinking water supply companies offer the highest stan- dards in drinking water purity and quality. Despite this fact, there is often a need to treat water additionally at point of use. There are several reasons for this including:
- In between leaving the water works and flowing through our faucets, water runs through miles of pipes, many of which were installed decades ago. Rust and particles released through corrosion here are transported in the water supply and end up blocking valves and seals as well as laying the foundations in our buildings for further corrosion and bacterial build up.
JUDO water treatment systems are engineered to help protect your pipe system along with all appliances and fitting attached to it, from damage ensuring a longer, more efficient and cost and environmentally effective working life.
- What is good for us humans is not always the optimal solution for our technical equipment, appliances and heat- ers. Depending on the water chemistry involved as well as the material these systems are made up of problems such as calcium deposits, corrosion or bacterial build up may also occur here.
JUDO’s innovative systems and products keep your heater and appliances working more efficiently, and in an environ- mentally and more cost effective manner. Protection levels against shut downs and malfunction levels in manufactur- ing processes are increased thus reducing the costs of maintenance and repairs and ensuring the systems run more efficiently.
- No matter if you are a homeowner looking at his water supply or a building manager with the weight of respons- ibility for several families on his shoulders, drinking water hygiene should always be high on your list of priorities to look out for.
JUDO protective inline strainers/filters and softeners offer an ideal platform in ensuring the levels of hygiene in the water coming out of your faucets are exactly what they should be.
What is an inline strainer?
- Patented “Point of Rotation” system with its generated dual vortex effect gives a superior 1:1 cleaning ratio, allowing the offset suction cleaning arms to remove stubborn sediment from the surface of the sieve while integral wipers clean the internal glass surface of the viewing chamber as the system rotates around the sieve *(see below)
- The filter body is constructed from aeronautical grade anti-shock materials giving both strength and a longer working life for the filter unit
- The stainless steel 100 micron sieve removes suspended solids from the water flow in via it’s fine woven structure and has an additional anti-bacterial nano silver coating to help to stop the growth of micro-biological organisms on the surface of the sieve in between backwash cycles
- Units come with either manual or automatic backwash options giving you the choice of economy or convenience without compromising efficiency and with the added protection of a manual override on the automatic options
- An optional protective automatic sensor (Pressure Differential) provides an additional safety measure against sudden influxes of suspended matter such as a municipal pipe burst in between cleaning cycles
- Backwashing Relies On Pressure not Water Flow so the water supply into the building remains live at all times and flow remains virtually unaffected
- Degree of dirt build up can be clearly observed through the clear 360⁰ viewing glass so you can monitor the units degree of fouling and backwash timeously
- No chemicals used, so backwash waste water can be reclaimed for irrigation or after settlement back into the water supply
